Progressions Officer

Position: Progressions Officer

Location: Derby/Nottingham

Salary Banding: £20,000-£22,000

NWR are working on behalf of an award-winning employment and training provider that has been supporting people into employment and training since 2000. They have helped to improve the lives of over 30,000 individuals and they have supported over 6,000 businesses to recruit and upskill employees to reach their potential.

With success comes growth, and my client is looking for a Progressions Officer who will be responsible for supporting clients in their career journey as well as supporting them to access suitable learning and training opportunities.

As a Progressions Officer, you will be responsible for supporting learners in deciding the next steps in their career, from considering training opportunities to starting work. You'll explain the options available to the customers, helping them to make informed choices about their future.

By supporting with information, advice, and guidance (IAG) on education, training and work opportunities including apprenticeships, you will monitor and support their next steps by either enrolling them onto their next learning program or helping them to get into work.

We are looking for candidates who are confident establishing a rapport with clients from a range of backgrounds, possess excellent organisational skills, the ability to meet targets and deadlines and most importantly - have a passion to enrich customers lives by helping them on their career and skills journey.

Key Responsibilities:

The Progressions Officer may work with individuals or groups in a variety of settings.

Tasks generally involve:

  • Supporting learners to source suitable progression routes and assist with a smooth transition into the learner's chosen destination
  • Managing a caseload, which is often comprised of a varied client group using short drop-in interviews, an extended interview, or a series of face-to-face interviews
  • Sourcing, building, and maintaining information resources on education, training, and work in order to signpost clients to the information that they need
  • Collecting, updating, and producing information on local opportunities or in a particular employment sector that will positively impact the caseload
  • Referring learners to other agencies, such as government agencies, learning and training providers or specialist organisations, and advocating on their behalf where necessary
  • Liaising closely with welfare, finance, and careers services
  • Undertaking outreach work, such as visiting community groups to talk about learning and work opportunities for your caseload
  • Planning, coordinating, and attending events and jobs fairs to market opportunities to prospective learners
  • Meeting targets and reporting to funders and the management team
  • Developing and maintaining a network of contacts with other providers of IAG, joining relevant professional associations where appropriate to support progressions
  • Undertaking administrative tasks, such as maintaining client records, conducting audits, recording statistical data, and producing management reports

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications required:

We are quite open on this. if you have experience working across the Further Education, or Welfare to work sectors, then this would be great. However, we are also looking to inspire people into this market with the transferrable skills. So if you come from backgrounds where you've experienced customer service, administrative duties, careers support, perhaps even HR or recruitment, then we'd like to hear from you.
The further education market is experiencing significant funding and growth, which is making it an attractive market for new careers. This market will offer stability as it is set for the next 5-10 years; long term careers in supporting people develop their own skills and careers, and quite often fast tracked progression as you climb through the ranks.

We (NWR) look forward to receiving your application
