As Infrastructure Engineering Manager you will be accountable for the internal infrastructure estate, including the IT technology and security strategy, and building out, in partnership with the CTO the wider technical road map.
You’ll coordinate and collaborate with the internal 3rd line support team in the delivery of technical support, and be responsible for system availability, performance, resiliency, and security for a multisite user base of circa 400 users.
In your roles, which is operational and strategic you will identify and propose new technologies and processes aligned to the company strategy and direction, taking opportunities to enhance the proactive management of the estate and provide ideas and consultation to other business teams.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a level of technical competence that remains current and fit for purpose in the role, highlighting any training needs to your line manager where appropriate
Demonstrate, over time, a knowledge of the organisation, including key users of technology and their needs
Manage the IT infrastructure estate to include:
Wintel server estate
Network estate
Storage, back up, and disaster recovery solutions
Microsoft Azure – iAAS / Storage / Networking
Microsoft 365
Active Directory
Meet the business’ IT needs by creating and owning a technical road map, and continuous improvement plan, through constant review of the business strategy, systems, and processes
Closely understand, review and manage the company’s IT security strategy and risks, including patch and vulnerability management
Improve IT costs, performance and end user satisfaction
Ensure IT systems remain in a secure, compliant, resilient, and hardened state.
Manage capacity planning and monitoring of the estate
Manage, and make recommendations for, the IT license estate, including cost saving recommendations
Maintain and test the IT disaster recovery plan
Act as technical lead for the business’ IT audits
Collaborate with the 3rd line support team members to diagnose and resolve network/system outages and issues
Lead and/or contribute to IT transformation and change projects as required
Ensure documentation is kept up to date to reflect any future changes
Work with the Change Management team to write, technically assess and implement change requests to ensure minimum impact to the business and our customer’s, when undertaking essential work and maintenance
Ensure infrastructure related ITSM tickets contain all appropriate troubleshooting and resolution information
Provide analysis and board level updates for IT workstreams, projects, plus significant risks, or issues
Provide line management to IT team members as the team requires
SKILLS AND QUALITIES
The Infrastructure Manager will demonstrate:
Extensive knowledge of the latest infrastructure technologies including servers, networking, and cloud-based solutions and hosting
Demonstrate experience of solution design and implementation including testing and roll back plans
Experience of creating technical proposals and business cases, to include cost and benefits analysis
Experience of consulting with clients/IT users, with an emphasis on customer needs and customer service, whilst remaining aligned to the technology and business strategy
Previous experience of 3rd line infrastructure support
A strong diagnostic approach, with attention to detail and effective fault-finding techniques.
Ability to impact and assess IT changes and resolutions
ITIL awareness
Ability to write and deliver clear and effective presentations
Experience of development and mentoring
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS:
The Infrastructure Manager will demonstrate:
Experience of network switching and routing technologies with a strong knowledge of Meraki networking, SD-WAN and WIFI
Strong Windows Server and core Microsoft technology knowledge, such as Operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects and Remote Desktop Services
Extensive experience of:
Microsoft 365
Microsoft Azure iAAS / Storage / Networking and Azure Active Directory
VMware and Hyper-V
Storage solutions
Storage/data replication
System and data backups
System monitoring solutions
Cloud technologies
