Let's be honest for a moment, a career in recruitment is challenging for your mental health!

As I write this, I’m thinking of recruiters that have reached Friday and are feeling drained, exhausted, and maybe even desperate.

You see, you never truly feel in control in this industry.....no matter what the so-called recruitment gurus say!

Why?

Because you’re always at the mercy of another human being's decision-making, and their unpredictable decisions have a direct impact on your mood, your livelihood, your income, and your mental health.

It’s this constant uncertainty that can overwhelm you with anxiety.

Now, recruitment-induced anxiety starts small...... it’s these micro stressors that compound into a much bigger problem.

Here is what they sound like in your head. ?

Will they call me back?
Will they show up?
Will they take my call?
Will they get the offer?
Will they accept?
Will I win the business?
Etc

These thoughts are then followed by

Will I hit my KPI?
Will I hit my target?
Will I get my bonus?

And then finally.....

Will I pay my credit card?
Can I afford a holiday or bigger?

Yeah there are techniques you can use to influence stakeholders and build capability, but let's face it, it is cope-ability that you need because you cannot guarantee 100% of the outcomes 100% of the time!

And it's this anxiety that then turns into stress, burnout, addiction or worse.

So if this post resonates with you, I want you to do the following this weekend!

Firstly……acceptance!

Recognise the signs - bad mood, bad sleep, bad diet, snappy, impatient.

Then accept that you need some self-care and be kind to yourself, and explain it to those around you!

Now action........

The great thing about anxiety caused by stress/micro stress is that you can burn this negative energy like you can burn calories. So get outside, walk, run, get out of breath - I’m telling you you never regret exercising….ever!

But I've also got a couple of great weekend recommendations for you that will really help!

1. Download this incredible audiobook and learn about the way your brain works in a really simple way - Why has nobody told me this before, by Julia Smith

2. Go and listen to the wonderful Dacher Keltner talking to Steven Bartlett here - https://lnkd.in/e_69KvhY

I promise that you if you do these things you’ll start on Monday feeling positive, enlightened, and ready to go again.

Good luck and have a fantastic, restful, and reflective weekend!
