Mechanical Design Engineer
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in special-purpose machinery, life science or laboratory equipment?

We're looking for a Design Engineer to join a leading provider of automated solutions based in Cheshire. For nearly 30 years, this company has used robotics to solve the problems presented to them by some of the world's most regulated industries.

The main purpose of this role is to design solutions for technically complex multi-disciplined projects and you will work alongside a Programme Manager, Mechanical Designers, Software Developers and Hardware Engineers. You will be responsible for producing innovative design solutions and providing technical support during implementation, commissioning and testing of our robotic applications for a variety of big-name clients. We are looking for someone who values innovation, quality, and reliability. Somebody who is not afraid to push the boundaries of technology to solve problems and deliver the best solutions. We want a team player, who enjoys collaborating and sharing ideas but is equally comfortable working autonomously and intuitively to get the work done.

To be considered for this role, you should have a minimum of 3 years of commercial Mechanical Design experience within a special-purpose machinery/automation or life science setting.

Responsibilities
  • Some experience of Proof of concept/development work.
  • Understanding of machinery regulations and the health and safety aspects of machinery design.
  • Understanding of CE and UKCA documentation and certification.
  • Understanding and GPS tolerancing systems.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD design using Solidworks® CAD package and PDM
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Flexible team worker.
  • Experience in working with well-documented QA processes.
Essential Requirements
  • Qualification: Minimum of BEng in Mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in the detailed design of machinery/laboratory equipment; from blank sheets of paper to fully commissioned and validated systems.
  • Ability to carry out calculations to support your design. Mainly this will involve structural and motion calculations with light FEA work to back up calculations
  • Some experience of Proof of concept/development work
  • Understanding of machinery regulations and the health and safety aspects of machinery design.
  • Understanding of CE and UKCA documentation and certification.
  • Understanding and GPS tolerancing systems.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD design using Solidworks® CAD package and PDM
  • Experience working to well documented QA processes
