Customs Manager

My client are leaders in the international transportation industry and are looking for a Customs Manager to join them and lead, support, and develop a team of 25 customs agents. This is a brilliant chance to run a department in the way you choose. You will be given the reigns to manage this successful team as you see fit and ensure its continued growth.

The Role:

To develop and manage the customs product in the marketplace through focus on operations, finances, sales, people, systems, and culture. To stay in adherence to the company’s policy, procedures and business code of conduct.

Main Duties:

  • Train, motivate, challenge and mentor other employees
  • Conduct annual reviews for employee retention program – against company and job expectations
  • Create a personal development plan with each employee. Set up, plan training and follow-up
  • Identify, develop and mentor your No. 2
  • Ensure all staff and positions have job descriptions, clear expectations and are working with structured development plans
  • Ensure new hires go through the new hire development map within the first 6 months
  • Conduct regular interviews with potential new personnel
  • Review department goals and business plan periodically with staff to ensure accountability

Knowledge:

  • Strong market and competition knowledge
  • Good knowledge of customs brokerage process and systems
  • Good knowledge of customs legislation, especially with regards to classification, valuation and origin
  • Understanding of ocean, transcon and air documentation processes
  • Knowledge of air, road and ocean transport
  • Good knowledge of incoterms
  • Thorough knowledge of the customs tariff and customs system
  • Working knowledge and experience of the customs regulations
  • Minimum 3-5 years of Customs Broker’s experience
  • Experience of managing or supervising a team

This role would be ideal for someone who has experience of managing a team but is ready to take the next step in their career with a larger team and with more flexibility and freedom. We are also interested in hearing from supervisors or other applicants who feel they are ready for this next step in their careers.

This is a full time and permanent role with working hours set around 9am – 5:30pm however some flexibility may be needed.

The remuneration is based around a base salary, bonus, and car allowance. The OTE for this role Is £60,000 - £80,000 and this will only grow. Excellent benefits are also included so please contact me for more information on this.
