SEO Lead - Organic Performance

Position Overview

Nearly half of all UK consumers come into contact with our clients website every month.
They provide expert journalistic research and cutting-edge tools with a powerful user community and a campaigning spirit.

This Organic Performance Lead role is a 12month FTC and reports into the Head of Digital. This role is fundamental to continued success with a significant revenue opportunity to be driven through co-ordinating across the team and leveraging internal experts from the SEO team.

You will sit on the management team and be responsible for driving forward the SEO agenda with the rest of the leadership team across editorial, commercial and product. You will be responsible for training the editorial team to use SEO planning tools and incorporate best practice and customer search intent insights into their writing.

As part of the broader digital leadership team, you will work closely with the Head of Digital, the SEO and Content Operations Lead and the vertical Leads to share strategic insights and learnings.
You will have support from the vertical SEO teams who will provide quarterly audits across the business disciplines. This is a key growth role for the team to help them to deliver further visitor and revenue increases in 2022 and beyond whilst helping customers to save money and find the best financial resources for them.

The core success metrics for this role will be visitor and GP budget targets delivered, a clear strategy and delivery plans in place for key product channels with SEO being a key consideration and higher on the agenda.
What’s in it for you? Well, further to the epic opportunity we believe this is, we also offer a range of attractive benefits. A competitive remuneration package is on offer, we pride ourselves on our flexible working culture and support for our employees to bring their whole selves to work, and we place real value and investment in learning and personal development, including a freedom pot for you to decide what to spend on each year. We also place importance on creating a fun working environment and provide a range of regular social and team events to celebrate our success.

Key Delivery Objectives

Own the SEO strategy
You will create the SEO strategy and identify the key opportunity areas for the business to focus on. You will be responsible for co-ordinating input from the vertical teams to create an opportunity map across core product lines. You will then work with teams across commercial, product and editorial to have recommendations implemented in a prioritised order.

Drive forward the SEO agenda with the Management team
You will collaborate closely with the product, commercial and editorial teams. You will assess opportunities for growth and flag any risks or opportunities with planned product changes across the website. Encouraging other teams to put SEO at the heart of their plans will be a key part of your role and you will be expected to challenge existing ways of working within the business. You will have strong communication and stakeholder management skills and clearly communicate any changes in the competitive landscape or performance to the broader leadership team. You will drive & agree quarterly planning cycles with Product & editorial.

Work closely with the Editorial team and upskill them on SEO

You will be responsible for training key editorial team members to use SEO planning tools (e.g., keyword research to drive content suggestions). Your role will be providing them with strategic insights and guidance rather than providing keyword research for all new articles. You will attend weekly editorial planning sessions and provide SEO guidance and field SEO questions.

Own reporting and measurement of SEO performance
You will monitor market changes, algorithm adjustments, competitor updates and our performance across a wide range of tools and platforms and report back to the broader team. You will be responsible for reviewing the SEO performance such as features e.g., forum and providing recommendations for improvements.

Skills and Experience

We need someone who can work in an agile manner and juggle multiple priorities concurrently across many different product types and teams.

The role requires an experienced SEO leader with 7+ years’ experience and an expert understanding of all aspects of organic performance and a strong commercial and analytical approach. The candidate must be a self-starter, passionate about delivering search excellence, and able to hit the ground running. Whilst SEO expertise and specialism critical, the ability to consider its role within a broader marketing and business mix will also be important.

In addition, someone who has strong project management and organisational skills and builds great stakeholder relationships.
