Develop solutions and prepare quotations for customers
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow the Customer Management and Quote Development processes to create quotations and win business
- Primary technical contact for managing the customer on all assigned opportunities; approved travel includes site visits, quote presentations/reviews, and project kick-off/launch meetings
- Full review of the application and development of professionally packaged quotation containing a high level of attention to detail
- Review and analyze customer documents (including requests for quotes, scopes of work, and equipment specifications/standards), lead site visits/reviews of applications, and review product designs and past history of equipment to ensure concept is optimized and effective, meeting customer specifications and expectations
- Coordinate and communicate with customer technical counterparts to gain understanding of needs and develop relationships with key influencers
- Identify key project components to be sourced and develop requests for quotes to identify technical capabilities and costs directly from suppliers
- Lead collaboration with engineering and manufacturing to complete quotations, including any testing, simulations, and feasibility studies to validate concepts for feasibility and functionality
- Complete accurate costing for quotes by individually analyzing time and material requirements for each aspect of the project
- Present quotes both internally and externally to customers to explain concept and validate budget
- Produce quoted concepts and written scopes of work that have been evaluated for feasibility and functionality
- Continuous research of new technologies to ensure customers are provided with the best possible concept
Requirements
Education
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering
- Mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or industrial/manufacturing specialization would be an asset
Experience
- 2-5 years of automation experience would be a strong asset
Prior cost estimation experience would be an asset
- Electrical or manufacturing (machining, fabrication, assembly) cost estimation experience would be a strong asset
Knowledge
- Intermediate to expert understanding of automation types
- General financial knowledge and understanding of costs, margins, and prices
- General understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and ability to read engineering drawings
- Understanding of the automation industry, including the custom machine design, build, and commissioning processes
- Technical knowledge to understand the mechanics and principles of automation
- Knowledge of cost drivers within the automation industry and the ability to quantify them (e.g. time, materials, tooling, expenses, etc.)
- Understanding machine build specifications and mechanical or electrical design drawings; creating 2D drawings
- Sourcing subcontractors and performing comparative analyses
- Utilizing industrial knowledge to effectively work with project teams and customers to design and estimate complete systems
- Knowledge of commercial industry and business to business sales
